Jewish Fund for Justice Mission Statement

“Justice, justice shall you pursue.”

Deuteronomy 16:20

The Jewish Fund for Justice is a national, publicly-supported foundation that acts on the historic commitment of the Jewish people to tzedakah (righteous giving) and tikkun olam (repair of the world). We believe that a commitment to combating poverty in the U.S., and the injustices underlying it, is an essential part of our core identity and values as Jews.

To fulfill its mission, JFJ carries out grantmaking, technical assistance and education to:

  • Support grassroots organizations in which low-income people are rebuilding their communities and changing the conditions that perpetuate poverty;

  • Increase awareness within the American Jewish community about the problems of poverty, the Jewish imperative to work for social and economic justice, and the importance of increasing support for community-based efforts to combat the causes and consequences of poverty;

  • Promote direct Jewish involvement in social and economic justice.
